Leo Novikov teaches a traditional violin method. His violin school takes roots in the principals of the best Russian teachers: Professors Grigori Zhislin, Zinaida Gilels, Maya Glezarova (assistants to Professor Y.Jankelevitch), Mikhail Fikhtengoltz, Leonid Poleyes. In the class of Chamber Ensemble Leo was studying under conducting of Professors V.Berlinsky (founder of the Borodin Quartet) and A.Korchagin (the Shostakovich Quartet).
It is already 27 years Leo Novikov passes his knowledge and skills to the younger generations. His work is well known and highly regarded in Australia. From 1994 till 2005 Leo was a Senior Lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music where he established Class of Accompaniment for the Piano Department and helped in development of the Classes of the Chamber Ensemble and Conducting. In recognition of his teaching talent in 1995-96 Leo was invited to conduct a series of the first experimental TV-link Master-classes between Sydney and Armidale. Many of Leo's students became professional violinists and teachers. Leo has strong principals, inherited from his teachers. He teaches the way "all great violinists play" from the very first lesson. Leo aimes to develop in his students love to music and appreciation for the privilege to play violin.
Leo organises at least 4 concerts a year where his students have a unique opportunity to play with an orchestra, composed of his advanced students. All arrangements are made by Leo Novikov. Every concert becomes a celebration of students' musical achievements. Apart from the concerts, Leo's students regularly perform at various Eisteddfod competitions and do AMEB exams.
